There is a lot of noise about Anna Hazare and his Candle-fellow’s anti-corruption movement and understanding the risk of talking against it at such a high-voltage atmosphere of overnight anticorruption activists who are non-violent supposedly and that only is the biggest relief while attempting to say an anti-word for this far-stretched eccentric episode that stands nowhere near to what Gandhiji taught, preached and practiced in whose name this all exhilaration is being conducted. I just want to bring to the notice of Anna only FIVE points and I would be the next supporter of him with a Gandhi-cap inscribed with letters ‘I Am Anna Hazare’ on my head, a black tag on my shoulder and a candle in my hand, without knowing why the candle…!?!
1. Anna calls this activity as Second (Not Another) Fight for Freedom and it was claimed exactly like that by Jayprakash Narayan when he initiated a movement against emergency declared by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Now there are only two possibilities that either Anna has completely forgotten about the Emergency India went through OR he is disregarding JP’s movement as inferior compared to his. Will Anna pick his choice of options…?
2. Anna wants to get his bill of ‘Lokpal’ passed by the Parliament which is formed, run and administered by MPs of ruling as well as opposing parties, elected by citizens of the nation and sent to the house to represent people’s demands and concerns and this system is governed by the Constitution and Judicial system of India, both being the highest regarded pillars of democracy at large. Now denying this system outright and demanding to rule a directive according to personal preferences, however noble and reasonable they be, is the Democratic way for Anna…? The fact that he is able to say all this on National television and his candle-fellows are able to gather in crowds and demonstrate their support and fervor for his cause after 65 years however ‘better late than never’ their awakening be, is not the proof enough for the ‘liberty’ they are enjoying…?
3. In the democratic system which is of the people, for the people and by the people, it is first and foremost directive that any and every decision of national importance will be taken by the people’s representatives who would be elected by the people. Now assuming that Anna agrees this basic principle of democracy and anticipating that he wants his way to catch, handle and eradicate corruption right from the roots, isn’t it logical that he will either have to form and represent a political party and follow the election process to get on the seats of Parliament houses wherein he can propose his ideas and solutions for proceedings? How is it possible to change a system without being a part of it OR by merely hating and opposing its elements…?
4. Finally, if Anna has a grave concern for the nation, nation’s people, their welfare and nation’s development, would he mind answering a simple question that how a developing country with a reduced GDP, CPI and HDI rates and skyrocketing prices of daily necessities with average daily income below RS. 100 can afford to ‘Take a Leave’ for a week to support a cause…? Now will Anna say that he don’t know any people, personally, who have to work day in and day out just to survive…?
5. To conclude this a last question to every Indian including Anna, as most of you are supporting him and will have enough time at hand in-between the protests, would you like to retrospect following questions that seem eternal for India…
a. Why is it that we always need a leader for anything and moreover why we cultivate the tendency to create legendary idols of the humans so that we can praise, worship and eventually use him/her?
b. What are the righteous, appropriate and justified means to face our problems? Is wearing a Gandhi-cap with someone’s name and holding candles will really solve it?
c. Whose job is it anyway and what is the basic, simplest and best thing everyone can do?
I would be waiting for the answers and will embrace the cause wholeheartedly on receipt of even one…!
Stay tuned and Be A-W-A-R-E...!
